  • Jay and Silent Bob go live on the big screen
"Kevin Smith: Live From Behind Featuring 'Jay and Silent Bob Get Old,' " will beam a live feed from Canada of Smith and Jason Mewes in character to theaters in that country and the U.S.

Kevin Smith's characters Jay and Silent Bob have enjoyed a life long beyond the run of their cult movie, "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back." The actor-director-writer (Bob) and his "heterosexual life mate" Jason Mewes (Jay) have made public appearances in character and have put out 64 editions of their podcast, "Jay and Silent Bob Get Old."

  • Syl Johnson's modern stroke
He had slipped into obscurity until samplings of his work by the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye West made him in demand. His anthology is up for two Grammy Awards.

It's been close to 10 years since Chicago soul/funk legend Syl Johnson played L.A. on or off camera. "I did 'Soul Train' and 'American Bandstand' out there," said the singer and guitarist, whose 1967 hit, "Different Strokes" (with its signature grunts and laughs), was a calling card of sorts for Johnson. "I used to love L.A."
